Our Team

Our team is our strength and the team is what makes our nursery. One may have the best intentions, plans and goals but without the right team none of them is achievable.

Our staff are suitably vetted and they all hold relevant childcare qualification up to degree level and EYT (early years) and other been turned teacher as to attain theirs
• All our staffs are paediatric first aid trained.
• All our staff members are trained up to level 2 in safeguarding children.
•  We invest in our staff team by offering regular training opportunities.

We have a system in place where the manager is supported by the deputy manager and the room/team leaders and the nursery administrative/account staff.

The various team leaders work to build a strong team in their room and the strength of each unit work to boost the quality our provision 

Chipo Mhlanga: Manager (B.A Hons- International Education & Diploma in Education)
Chipo Mhlanga has been with us since the nursery started in 2011.  She is a very enthusiastic and driven manager with a strong understanding of the EYFs.  This eables her to provide unique and diverse support and leadership for the children and staff here at First Step. She manages both settings (Deptford & Plumstead) supported by her deputy and mangement team.

Keisha Moore; Deputy Manager
Keisha is an experienced member of staff who holds a level 3 qualification in Child Care. She has a strong passion for providing quality child care. Her motto is “Always do it to the best standard.” Her strength lies in planning and delivering stimulating and fun filled activities for all the children and constantly provides innovative ways to support the children’s learning and development. Mainly based in our Baby Room, Keisha is kind and friendly. Babies warm to her quickly and she strives for perfection from her team bearing in mind how delicate our little babies are.

Charlotte Childs; Baby Room Assitstant Room Leader

Charlotte is a Level 3 qualified member of staff in Child Care. Mainly based in our Baby Room, Charlotte is dedicated to supporting our Baby Room children with their learning and development. 

Bernadette Mabiongo; Toddler Room Leader

Bernadette is a qualified early year’s assessor and holds a Level 3 qualification in Child Care.  Bernadette has a wealth of experience working with children in the early years. She uses her experience to enhance the settings practise and ensure that we are working within the themes of the curriculum to always provide quality child care. She is kind, knowledgeable and caring member of the team. She has a very strong team working with her.

Isatu Kamara: Pre-School Room Leader

Isatu is a Level 3 qualified childcarer. Her experience is vast and she takes joy in teaching our children as we strive to attain a right footing for them in preparation for transition to mainstream school. She is an enthusiastic member of the team dedicated to providing good quality childcare for our  children


Rhonda Jones: Deputy Room Leader, Preschool

A Level 3 qualified enthusiastic teacher. She works hard to prepare the children in their move to mainstream school.Parents and children that have moved on always make time to pass by to see her.


Songul Gurbuz: Administrator

A welcoming, hospitable, friendly and and helpful front/enquiries desk. From the entrance , the children and parents feel welcome and are at home with her.


Sarah Hubbell: Nursery Chef

Sarah is a dedicated and hardworking chef. She prodes herself in preparing meals from the scratch vegetarian meal, balanced and healthy meals. she keeps a 5-star rating kitchen. Our children eagerly wait ........ lunch, snacks and tea. She prepares a monthly menu which is completely made up of freshly cooked meals daily.


The management team understands the importance of consistently improving staff knowledge and understanding. For example, staff attend carefully chosen training courses that have the most impact on the quality of provision.
